Guided Fly Fishing for Brook Trout FAQs
-
Boots
Because of the environments we’ll be fishing in, you don’t need a big pair of hip boots for a day out chasing brookies. You do need a pair of wading boots with either a rubber spike sole or felt sole—or, at the very least, an overshoe traction system made for fishing to add to a pair of boots you already own. We like Korkers for their interchangeable sole systems and Grundens as a classic brand loved for its quality.
Waders or quick-dry pants
If you don’t like getting wet, bring some waders. Don’t mind a little bit of wet wading during the warmer months? Wear quick-dry pants with wet wading neoprene booties, and you’ll be dry in 20 to 30 minutes once you’re back on the bank.
Polarized Sunglasses
Polarized sunnies are a must so you can cut the glare under the water and actually see the fish.

One of the biggest benefits of a guided fishing trip with Brackish Outfitters is that you get to test drive our custom-built fly rods. Whether you’re just getting into fishing and haven’t splashed out on a rod of your own yet or you’re looking to test drive a bespoke Brackish fly rod before ordering one of your own, we’ve got you covered with no added rod fee. That said, if you have a rod you can’t fish without, bring it along! We’d never get between you two.

All skill levels are welcome on Geoff’s guided fishing experiences, whether you’re a seasoned angler or you’ve never been in the same room as a fly rod, much less cast one before.

If you have a kiddo who’s genuinely excited about learning fly fishing skills, we’re genuinely excited about fishing with them. Kids aged 13 and up are welcome to join their adult on a day of guided fly fishing.

No waders or spike-sole boots needed for this trip! This is truly the best trip for the new angler who doesn’t want to dive into new gear just yet—or for an experienced angler on a trip without their kit. We do highly recommend polarized sunglasses to cut through the glare on the water so you can see the fish below the surface.

Guided Striped Bass Fishing in Cape Cod
If salt air and surf calls to you, join us off or on Cape Cod for a special striped bass fishing trip led by the esteemed organizer of the annual Save the Stripers fundraiser, as featured on NPR. This trip combines the thrill of chasing stripers with the chance to contribute to conservation efforts.
Striper fishing is exhilarating; these fish are strong and fast and will give you a fight. If you hook one, you know you’ve truly earned it. Depending on the season, we can spend a day fishing for this migratory bass from shore in the salt flats and beaches down the Cape, up in Ipswich, or off-shore by boat.
As an experience tracking a species threatened by overfishing and our changing climate, we have begun to offer this special excursion only a few times a season. Click here to join our waitlist for the next weekend casting for this incredible fish.
